During the meeting held at the HQ of Iranian ministry of foreign affairs, the two diplomats discussed the ways to broaden and deepen bilateral ties in all areas.
Implementation of the JCPOA (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action signed on July 14, 2015, in Vienna between Iran and 5+1 group of countries), the necessity of commitment exercised by all sides of the agreement, regional and international developments especially in regard to Iraq and Syria, war on terror, and countering extremism were the issues Mr. Zarif and Mr. Linhart exchanged views on.
Earlier in mid-September, the Austrian diplomat commented on the JCPOA saying, “Austria attaches utmost importance to the ongoing implementation of the JCPOA and particularly to the crucial role of IAEA in verifying and monitoring the process.”
Despite comments by US President Donald Trump threatening the future of the agreement, international support for the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the 5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, UK and US) remains strong.
